On Wednesday, Finland-based mobile network vendor Nokia filed five patent-infringement lawsuits against US tech biggie Apple, accusing it of violation of 32 Nokia patents.
The lawsuits against Apple were filed by Nokia in Germany and the US. The lawsuits basically pertain to Nokia's licensing terms for the widely used H.264 video codec and other technologies.
Nokia has recorded a larger than expected fall in the sale of its telecoms equipment in the global markets during the first quarter.
The Finnish company warned that its earnings from key business is likely to record a fall this year due to the weak demand for the mobile equipment in the market. The company's net sales fell 17 percent in North America, 11 percent in the Middle East, 6 percent in Asia-Pacific and 5 percent in China.
Finnish handset maker Nokia has revealed in a recently-issued press statement that the company's acquisition by software giant Microsoft has been delayed. The acquisition - which was earlier expected to complete later this month - still requires the approval of some Asian regulators; and will likely be completed in April.
On Friday, The Income Tax department moved the Delhi High Court seeking "directions/clarifications" of the December 12 order by which the assets of mobile phone handset maker Nokia in India were de-freezed.
The Delhi High Court has been informed by the Income Tax department that Nokia India and Nokia Corporation owe it Rs 21,153 crore as total tax liability (existing and anticipated), which includes penalty during a seven-year period from 2006-2013.
