Battle of Bands Event to Raise Funds for Macmillan Cancer Support

As per reports, an event named Battle of the Bands will be held at the Fleece in Bristol on Monday, June 3, to raise money for a cancer charity.
The event will award recording equipment to the winners. Terming the event as their first big fund raiser event for Macmillan, Mark Kenton of Ignition, said they want it to be a huge success. Kenton is the organizer of the event.

6.5% Rise in Healthcare Expenses of Families

As per recent reports, 6.5% of increase has been observed in the healthcare expenses of the employers in the current year over 2013. However, increase is slightly less than that occurred in the last year when it was observed to be 7.2%.
Lung Cancer Detection in Smokers Done Effectively by CT Scans

In a trial it was found that lung cancer detection in smokers was done quite effectively by the CT scans as compared to the chest x-rays.
However, the scans were not very successful in examining the malignancy. It was seen that the sensitivity of detecting the cancer in CT scan was 94% while the specificity was 73%. However, the same with chest x-rays was found to be 74% and 91% respectively.
FDA’s Advisory Committee appreciates Merck’s Insomnia Drug

As per recent reports, it has been revealed that the advisory committee of the U. S. Food and Drug Administration has announced that the Merck & Co., Inc.'s drug suvorexant is quite effective.
The drug was found to be quite beneficial in promoting sleep. Though the drug was appreciated by the FDA, it shall be noted that the committee has asked for lower dosage due to multiple safety issues.
New Species of Dinosaurs Discovered by Team at University of Toronto

The team of paleontologists from the University of Toronto, Royal Ontario Museum, Cleveland Museum of Natural History and University of Calgary has recently discovered a new species of dinosaurs which is said to have lived in the place which is now known as southern Alberta.
