As per reported information, it has been revealed that Premier Anna Bligh has announced the dates for the most awaited awards in the region, the Queensland Greats Awards. The awards ceremony would take place during the Queensland Week celebrations from 2 to 11 June 2012.
The Queensland Week and the awards has become part of the life of Queenslanders which is annual affair since 2001. Premier Bligh is the one who first thought of having such awards and a week-long celebration will make the joy far higher.
Bligh said, “Each year during Queensland Week celebrations, the Queensland Government, through this prestigious awards program, honors proud individuals and distinguished institutions that have shown a lifetime dedication and contribution to the development of Queensland”.
It is one such week where the state government recognizes the real gems, and stars of the country. Bligh asserted that they have handed out awards to institutions and individuals who have put their soul to improve Queensland.
Bligh has asked Queenslanders to show respect for others if they have been influenced by their social work for the development of Queensland, and nominate them for the awards. They just have to nominate the names of their friends and families and other known members who they think deserve the recognition for their efforts.
In addition to it, Bligh also announced that she has decided to create a single department that would specialize in the care of mental health services. The yet-to-be-created, stand-alone building would be free from hospital budget pressures and would operate under its own legislation which would be formed by Bligh.
It shall however be noted that the Queensland Health will continue looking after mentally ill patients visiting hospitals, clinics and other non-government organizations. Bligh said that no interference would be done in the work of Queensland Health.
