Cancer Patients Dependent on Charity in Essex

Macmillan-CancerAs per recent reports, it has come to light that a large number of patients in Essex, who are suffering from different forms of life-threatening diseases, including heart ailments as well as various types of cancer, are dependent on a number of charitable donations for the sake of keeping warm during the winter. In addition, it has been revealed that the number of such patients has increased vastly during the recent times as compared to few years back.

The news has arrived as energy bills are rapidly on the rise in the region and it is getting tougher and tougher for people to heat their homes for the sake of getting comfort by the means of plummeting temperatures.

In this regard, Macmillan Cancer Support revealed that it has provided in excess of £253,000 in terms of monetary funding to more than 799 cancer patients from all over Essex. Of the total, more than 22% of individuals were helped in paying their electricity bills. Also, a massive total of £30,790 has been given for providing assistance to more than 172 patients so that they can comfortably heat their homes in the freezing condition.

While expressing her opinion regarding the support being provided to patients for assisting them in enduring the adverse climatic conditions, Tamara Moreau, the Welfare Manager of North East Essex for Macmillan Community, said: “To feel too scared to put the heating on because of soaring energy bills is an unacceptable reality for thousands of vulnerable cancer patients who feel the cold more and spend long periods of time at home”.

At the time of foundation of the charity a century back, the founder of the charity, Douglas Macmillan, assisted cancer patients by providing them coal so that they can keep their houses warm in plummeting temperatures. Ever since then, the charity is focused on providing all the assistance they can in order to help cancer patient live their life somewhat comfortably.
