NSW Nursing Homes Gets $140m for Sprinklers

NSWThe New South Wales Government has recently revealed that in excess of $140 million will be required in case sprinkler systems are to be put up in nursing homes all over the state.

The statement has apparently been inspired by a recent incident in which a deadly fire erupted in the west of Sydney during the last year.

A review of a number of residences was turned on following the fatal incident in which 11 aged people died due to the fire which sneaked through the Quakers Hill-based residence of the principal earlier on November 18.

The fire went severe and resulted in so many casualties as the facility was not having a sprinkler system in place.

While expressing his opinion regarding the entire issue along with explaining the need of having sprinklers installed in order to combat any kind of outbreak and fatality due to fire, Planning Minister Brad Hazzard revealed: “That is a very interesting and difficult and challenging issue for the Government, because up until this fire it had always been considered that if you had all the other measures (in place) that in many other cases the sprinklers weren't necessary”.

In the meantime, a man working as nurse at the residence has been accused over a number of allegations, including murder over the inferno. However, it was found by the audit that a mere 300 of the total 900 aged care homes all over the state have sprinklers installed to combat blaze.

Hazzard further added that he is all in readiness to take the matter in front of the Cabinet, though he admitted that their no final decision made as on now regarding whether or not sprinklers the installation of sprinklers must be made mandatory.
