Measles Outbreak Causing Concerns

MeaslesA formal announcement by the Indiana State Department of Health has been made regarding the measles outbreak in Massachusetts and New York. It has been reported that some of the residents of Massachusetts and New York have come in contact with deadly measles virus during their visit to Super Bowl Village.

Yesterday, about four cases of measles have been reported. Among the four patients, one is said to have got affected with the virus during his visit to Super Bowl Village. Although the chances of the virus spreading to others are quite low, people are required to take necessary precautionary measures so that they could be saved from being affected by the virus.

However if contracted, the virus could be fatal for kids and expecting mums. The measles virus spreads through air whenever an infected person sneezes or coughs. The virus coming from the droplets of sneezing and cough remains on the surface of air for about two hours.

A major proportion of American population has already been vaccinated against measles. The identity of the infected patients has not been disclosed by the authorities concerned. A person infected with measles can show symptoms of fever, cold, running nose and cough. The symptoms persist for almost 7 days.

In the worse cases, body temperature of a patient can get as high as 105 degrees. Rash over skin begin to appear. The rashes can spread from face to legs. People are being advised to seek medical aid when symptoms of measles begin to appear. Staying at home is advisable as it would prevent others from being infected with the disease.

It is believed that the authorities concerned would be capable to solve the issue of measles and would also ensure safety of the people who are prone of being infected with it.
