Simple Names Contribute in One’s Growth

MelbourneA group of authors from the University of Melbourne in Australia has discovered a strange fact that name of a person could prove highly beneficial in winning friends as well as in certain other achievements.

It has been revealed by the team that the easy the pronunciation of a name is, the more the chances of being ahead of others. As per the findings of the study, easy to pronounce name largely helps in winning more number of friends as well as in gaining promotions at work.

Nearly 500 names of lawyers in the US were tested by the team, which suggested that the subtle effect of names can be seen at work in any field. Also, it can be seen in our day to day life. However, people unknowingly ignore minor discriminations that occur during declaration of decisions. "People simply aren't aware of the subtle impact that names can have on their judgments", affirmed Dr. Adam Alter, author of an earlier study from the New York University Stern School of Business.

A previous study had also discovered that names had a notable impact on financial stocks as well. It was found that financial stocks with simpler names performed better in the stock market as compared to stocks with difficult names. Thus, it has proved to be an evidence for the new research that says that participants whose name was easy were at higher chances of getting promoted at jobs or favoured at a place.

The team of researchers has told that it is not the length of name or unusualness or foreign sounding that defines subtle effect of name on a thing or a person’s growth. Rather, how easy it is to pronounce name that matters.
