America’s Red Cross Society Assures Sufficient Blood Stock

Red-CrossIn a disappointing move, blood-collection workers from Teamsters Local 507 have warned that they would go on strike. This move could put significant impact on the American Red Cross' largest drive in the Northern Ohio Blood Services Region.

There could be a loss of approximate 1,000 pints of blood with the cancellation of the event which was suppose to take place this Tuesday. However, Christy Sabaka, Communications Manager for the chapter, is of the view that they have sufficient stock of blood as of now, but would still want people to come forward to donate blood. They need 900 pints every day to fill the targeted need.

Concerned authorities are getting in touch with those who had appointment for the day at the Valentine's Day blood drive at Executive Caterers at Landerhaven in Mayfield Heights. There are nearly 780 donors who would be now directed to move to other locations to donate blood.

Even if the strike didn’t halt, the authorities are pretty much sure that they would be able to work it out with their back up plans. It is expected that there could some future date set for the cancelled Landerhaven event. A lot depends on the striking workers before any further decision is being taken in the same context.

There is need for people to understand what all they can do to save one’s life. Such blood drives are being arranged to make sure that more and more people are made to come forward to do their bid in the noble cause.

It was told that nearly 250 striking workers had contract with Red Cross till 3 a. m. Tuesday. While the workers have made their intention clear, it would be worth seeing how this crisis is managed.
