S, one in eight women expects this type of cancer to develop. Some of the main factors that are behind the occurrence of this cancer in women are early menstruation, delayed menopause or certain genetic makeups. In case of otherwise healthy women, soy can act as an effective measure of treating breast cancer. Yes, without using other drugs and medications, soy can be used by women for protecting themselves from this cancer.

Well now there arises a question that do soy-based foods really help in preventing breast cancer? Are soy supplements helpful for this? For revealing the fact, a study was conducted and 98 women; all aged 48 to 50 years were reviewed. Based on their pre- and post-menopausal status, they were equally divided in two groups. All of these women were healthy in other aspects of life but were at a higher risk for breast cancer.

To know the effects of soy supplements, they were randomly asked to take them daily for six months. At the same time, no participant was allowed to eat foods containing soy. They were also restricted to take any kind of hormone treatments.

Once in the beginning and then in the end of this study, breast biopsies were done to them, so that exact measure of epithelial cells could be extracted. These cells are considered as early cancer cells. Few laboratory analyses were also performed to know the level of a protein in these women’s body that is responsible for indicating cancer cell growth.

As a result, it was found that there is no virtual difference in the status of women taking and not taking soy supplements.

However, in case of pre-menopausal women, this protein definitely showed a rise in cancer cells among women who were taking soy. This was not the case with post-menopausal women.
