Perak Witnesses Rising AGE Cases

AGEA report reveals that Acute Gastroenteritis (AGE) cases have been continuing to rise in Perak and hospitals have been showing carelessness in reporting the same to district health offices. It has been announced by the Deputy Health Minister of the state that the hospitals that fail to do so would be sued.

It has been revealed in the report that rotavirus outbreak has occurred in the northern part of the country in late January and has caused deaths of two children. Also, another 3,000 people have also been victimized by the virus. As per the report, several thousands of such cases have been realized by the country’s population.

The report has found that Rotavirus, a wheel-shaped structure, is a contagious infection and is transmitted via food and water. It tends to cause fever, headaches, diarrhoea and nausea in its victims.

The data discloses that a total of more than 3,000 cases have been found in the state, of which 200 cases, more or less, have been reported today only. Concerning the increased number of cases of the rotavirus, the Health Minister Datuk Rosnah Rashid Shirlin has announced that AGE cases found, should be reported by private clinics and hospitals to district health offices.

She, who had visited AGE patients at the Tapah Hospital on Wednesday, has further also affirmed that strict action would be taken against the hospitals that fail to report such cases.
