Google Reopens Wallet, Stops Creating New Prepaid Cards

Google Reopens Wallet, Stops Creating New Prepaid CardsAs per a new report, Google has suspended the development of new prepaid Google Wallet cards as a measure of precaution to prevent hackers from reaching the contents of one's prepaid Google card. It has been found that Google Wallet mobile payments service to prepaid cards has been restarted by the firm.

Google reports that since no real world evidence has been found that the Google Wallet PIN could be disclosed on rooted Android devices. Thus, the firm has delivered a fix, which would help in preventing existing prepaid cards to be swapped from one user to another. The fix in Wallet security has been made as it has been found that it allowed a phone thief to spend prepaid balance of a user.

It has been told by Osama Bedier, Vice President, Google Wallet and Payments that Google deems that the step of temporary lock-down taken by it would act as a precaution, thereby tightening up the security of Wallet. As per the directions by the firm, people who own rooted devices should not use Google's Wallet.

The reason why Google has recommended doing so is that the rooted phones do not support the Google Wallet. The company says, "Sometimes users choose to disable important security mechanisms in order to gain system-level "root" access to their phone" "we strongly discourage doing so if you plan to use Google Wallet because the product is not supported on rooted phones".

According to the findings of the report, Google Inc. has suspended the provision of new prepaid cards due to pending update. However, the issue has now been partially solved, giving no evidence of exploitation of weaknesses of Google products for criminal purposes, says the company.
