Preventing Ovarian Cancer

Ovarian-CancerA recent research done by a team of scientists is of the view that those women who are affected by womb endometriosis tend to have a larger chance of being able to develop Ovarian Cancer in the long run. The study was published in The Lancet and it is of the view that women suffering from womb diseases have a higher risk of contracting Ovarian Cancer.

This is a disease that affects about 10% women who are in the reproductive age. It is actually when the uterus lining pieces tend to appear outside the womb of the woman and this is associated with a clear cell risk, which can give rise to a range of cancers.

"This breakthrough could lead to better identification of women at increased risk of ovarian cancer and could provide a basis for increased cancer surveillance of the relevant population, allowing better individualization of prevention and early detection approaches such as risk-reduction surgery and screening”, said lead author Celeste Leigh Pearce, from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles.

The study was conducted by the team of researchers from the Ovarian Cancer Association Consortium and they are of the view that there are a number of risk types associated with this condition such as mucinous carcinomas, high-grade serous; clear cell; endometrioid and low-grade serous.

The study included as many as 23,000 women and it was found that the one who have suffered from womb troubles in the past are at a higher risk. There is need for women to keep a track of their health at all times they shouldn’t be careless and ignorant about their condition. Screenings at regular intervals are a must and this alone is the key to healthy body and mind in the long run.
