A report has revealed lately that Auckland and Wellington have been facing a dog virus outbreak, which has alarmed Taranaki vets. It is being said that the virus has victimized four dogs in Auckland in just one week, raising a huge concern amongst vets.
It has been revealed by the report that the dog virus, which has been detected in the countries, is an infection that targets dogs. The virus shows varied symptoms in dogs, including bloody diarrhea, fever and severe vomiting. It is being said that it is a contagious disease and is passed through contact with faeces.
The treatment for the disease has been found to be highly expensive, which is why Wellington, wherein some cases have also been detected, was unable to afford the same for victims. It has been told by the experts that vaccination for the same could cost cheaper though i. e. equivalent to $50. Treating an affected dog would be comparatively costlier i. e. up to $500 and $1000.
As per the report, Auckland had found four dogs to be suffering from parvo disease, caused by the virus. It is said that the disease can be cured with the help of a swift treatment, lacking which; victims could die slowly of dehydration.
It has been found that earlier in the year 2010; some cases of the same disease were seen in South Taranaki as well, as per the statement of Taranaki Veterinary Centre small animal manager Brian Dixon.
"We are concerned, we definitely don't want to see large numbers because it is incredibly expensive to treat those dogs to try to save them and there is no absolute treatment", the manager added. He thus has been urging owners for early vaccination of pets against the virus.
