Relay Begins This Weekend To Raise Funds For Cancer ResearchIt has been uncovered in a report recently that the event called Relay For Life, which is organized each year, by Cancer Society will begin this Saturday. As per the report, the event is a part of various activities organized by the Cancer Council for raising funds for cancer research.

The report has revealed that the event would be taking place on the coming weekend at the Millenium Stadium at 4pm and would continue till 10am on Sunday. It is said that the relay is organized annually with an aim to remember the lost ones as well as acknowledge their families.

The event to be held comprises of several activities such as candle light ceremony, camping-out, music, family fun and food as well as the on-going relay, reveals the report. As per previous reports, the same event held in the year 2010 had contributed almost half a million dollars and helped the Cancer Society in works like counsellors and the 0800 information help line and in further research of cancer.

As per the findings, thousands of children and adults, including school children, family and friends as well as work colleagues, would be participating in the event this time, which is aimed at raising funds for the Cancer Council and showing support to cancer patients. It has also been found that relay is celebrated with a survivor lap.

Matiu Leonard, who himself was a patient of testicular cancer, has joined the team called Balls Out as his participation in the relay, saying that to sit back and wait is useless. "We're really excited this year for the bone marrow drive and Beautiful Lengths, which donates people's hair to make wigs for cancer patients", said Relay for Life committee chair Andrew DiChiara, A&S '15.
