Domain Name burjkhalifa.ae for "Burj Khalifa" reserved by TRA

The legendary UAE icon, Burj Khalifa recently had a full fledged live Radio show on Dubai Eye on itself. The show mainly focused on the issue of domain name availability for Burj Khalifa. Astonishingly, the show informed on air that the domain name burjkhalifa. ae cannot be found, while burjkhalifa. com is not available.

After this announcement was made on air, Mr. Mohammed Gheyath, Executive Director of the Technology Development Affairs at the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, called into the live radio show and declared that the domain name burjkhalifa. ae has been immediately reserved by TRA upon the declaration of the renaming of the UAE iconic structure yesterday.

Safeguarding the rights of the authorized entity entitled to this domain, protecting the intellectual property rights, and securing the domain from cybersquatters were referred to as main reasons behind reserving the domain name.

It won't be wrong to say that the motive behind the move by TRA is to safeguard the .ae ccTLD and promote the use of the .ae domain name space.

TRA's well defined polices and regulations secure the .ae domain name, contrary to the .com domain name.

"TRA has launched last year, and through the .aeDomain Administration initiative, a nation-wide campaign with the aim of making the .ae domain name the definitive and default location where the Internet using public of the UAE can be represented in the World Wide Web," said Gheyath.
