At one side, the world is busy in taking part in the cancer events like Relay for Life, and on the other side, an employer has brutally terminated a cancer employee. It has been reported that an employer in the Hong Kong has terminated an employee after discovering that the employee has been suffering with stage four breast cancer.
Although the victim is getting her cancer treated, she is fearful about her future as she doesn't have a job. It has further come to light that the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration has also failed in providing care to victim. The victim was provided with just an ambulance by the Association.
Activists have asked the authorities to provide health coverage to the victim as she doesn't have any job. Activist priest Fr. Robert Reyes said, "We should have legislation for this because this is becoming critical for our OFWs".
There are many employers who are helping their employees in getting cancer treated. Such employees are lucky to have employers who are supporting them. Many employers terminate their employees even if their cancer is in first or second stage. Employers should support their cancer employees and should also help them in their struggles.
