As per recent reports, it has been declared that tones of illegal drugs worth billions were set ablaze on streets of Bang Pa-in industrial estate in Ayutthaya. It has been reported that the incident took place this Friday, following a national agenda launched by the government to fight against the increasing incidents related to drugs.
Detailed reports suggest that Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra spearheaded the agenda, which paid a tribute to global community’s memorial of the International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, by burning three tones of illegal drugs valued about 6.5 billion baht.
Further, it has been recovered that these drugs were under the custody of police and were put forth as evidences for almost 1,023 court cases. The illegal drugs included several different kinds like methamphetamine pills, crystal methamphetamine, ecstasy tablets, heroin, cocaine, marijuana.
It has been reported that it has been for the 41st time that such an action has been taken in Thailand to restrict the use of illegal drugs. Moreover, it has been administered that to avoid any air pollution, these drugs were specially burnt in a pyrolytic incinerator.
Authorities said, “They have a further 24,000 kilos of confiscated drugs worth an estimated $2.2 billion awaiting destruction after they were seized in as yet unresolved drug cases”.
