Donald P. Shiley BioScience Center researchers have now found a new way to activate fight flu viruses, a recent report reveals. The way to immediately activate the immune system to kill all flu strains has been successfully found, the team says.
While it has been known since long that the flu virus allows the immune system to take its own time and have a grasp on it in few days of its arrival. But, the team says that the new strategy would possibly not even require a single minute by the immune system to detect and attack the virus.
It has been found that a powerful synthetic protein named EP67 exists in the human body, which has the ability to instantly set the immune system in motion.
As per the team, though earlier the protein was added to a drug to help perform the same function. It has now raised hopes to prevent the infection directly even before the pathogen is identified. However, the protein is currently only active in animals and birds, but it is being anticipated to have benefits in veterinary applications also.
“EP67 could potentially be a therapeutic that someone would take when they’ve been exposed that would help the body fight off the virus before you get sick”, says Joy Phillips, Ph. D.
