Malaysia hopes that the proposed visit by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak to United Arab Emirates (UAE) would help to strengthen trade and diplomatic ties between two nations. The country has been looking for investment and trade opportunities in the Gulf nation by building better political understanding with its government.
Malaysian ambassador Datuk Yahaya Abdul Jabar informed, "This is his second visit to Abu Dhabi since becoming prime minister in April 2009. It's a reflection of the growing bilateral ties between Malaysia and Abu Dhabi, as well as the UAE."
The visiting Malaysian PM would hold discussions with General Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces of UAE during his official visit starting from January 16. He is also expected to call on Vice-president and Prime Minister- Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Malaysia and UAE have been remained good trading partners in recent years with total trade between the two countries stood at RM11.8 billion during the period between January-October 2009.
The envoy further added, "The Prime Minister's visit is not only to attend the World Future Energy Summit but to strengthen economic and political contacts."
