Findings in a research at National Jewish Health suggested that in order to make their kids more active and less of turning like lazy champs, parents can put in major efforts by setting their own examples.
Kristen Holm and her colleagues emphasized that as parents bring about a change in their physical activity level, this automatically urges their kids even to do so and an increase in even their activity level is administered.
It has been reported that this has been the first ever study which has experimentally proven that there is a correlation between the parents activity level and even their child’s activity level. Till date, this was just known as a fact, but with this study it has been proven. Moreover, the study will even help tackle the obesity epidemic.
National Jewish said, “In the study, 83 families were enrolled in a family-based intervention designed to prevent excess weight gain among overweight and obese children aged seven to 14 years”.
Further, the parents and children were urged to increase their levels of physical activity by increasing their daily walking steps by 2,000 per day.
Mothers of all the families participated. It was discovered that the day mothers were able to complete 2,000 steps a day; children were able to take 2,117 additional steps.
