Employers have confessed that they have limited sources to help employees to get back to job following sick leaves. The employers have suggested that a scheme should be introduced in which employees should be provided financial help during their long term sickness.
It has further come to light that awareness to employers is lacking about the State funded help available for the long-term sick employees. Employment and Support Allowance (ESA) is available however employers are unaware as to how much help they can take against a long-term illness of an employee.
Because of the lack of awareness of the employers, many employees with long term diseases like cancer are made suffer with inadequate financial support. Besides, it is believed that lack of awareness among the employers can put the employees at pressure as they will be forced to join workplace earlier due to financial difficulties.
Said Steve Bridger from Aviva said, “There is a concerning lack of awareness amongst employers about the State benefits relating to illness or injury”. There is need to bring awareness among the employers so the employees could be supported with financial aid during the time of crisis. Aviva does provide financial help to employers and employees one just need to be aware about the services.
