Since many long years, smoking has been showing its deadly effects on the health of people in the region but today the situation has become so worse that one bed in every hospital is occupied by a patient with a smoking-related illness, confirmed the figures released by the Health and Social Care Information Centre (HSCIC).
The terrible figures from HSCIC brought some more and severely concerned statistics in front of all including:
1. Hospitals are admitting more than 1,260 adults aging 35 years and older due to deadly smoking effects every day.
2. 2010-2011 reported almost 460,000 hospital admissions in England and all of those attributable to only one reason i. e. smoking. Approximately 126,200 showed symptoms related to respiratory diseases whereas 160,300 got affected from smoking-related cancers like lung cancer etc, and the rest 135,400 had circulatory disease.
3. The positive fact that came to light was the massive contribution from NHS Stop Smoking Services to help people quit their smoking habit. Yes, the data has confirmed that more number of people than previous year tried to kick the habit (a 4 percent rise has been noticed).
Regarding the situation, HSCIC Chief Executive Mr. Tim Straughan said: “These figures present in stark terms the impact smoking has on people’s individual health and NHS services”.
