Chairman of Care Quality Commission, England, Dame Jo Williams, has said she will be giving up her post. She asserted that the time she spent working with CQC was one of the best periods and it was a golden opportunity for her to work with the organization.
However, she affirmed that now it is time for her to move ahead and provide the same opportunity to someone else. However, till the time another suitable candidate for the post is not chosen, she will be continuing.
Last year, CQC was held guilty over mistreatment of those living in the Winterbourne View care home. Following this, critical remarks from health select committee of MPs and the National Audit Office, emphasized that the organization is facing a major challenge and trying to cope up.
The Health Select Committee condemned CQC, stating the organization has set itself accountable for several aspects. However, it failed to put in the efforts and focus on its main aim of providing minimum standards.
The Department of Health said, “Williams was tireless and dedicated to her role, but her position came under close scrutiny after she tried, and failed, to have a board colleague sacked over criticism of the CQC's leadership”.
