As per reports, it has been revealed that a new drug currently named as BG-12 is said to be quite beneficial in treating multiple sclerosis (MS). In total, two studies were being carried out to test the efficacy of the same.
However, both the studies were found to be reducing the relapse rate by approximately 50%. One of the two studies has also found that the drug also reduces the possibility of suffering from disability chances.
Lead author of one of the studies Dr. Robert Fox, who is positioned as medical director at the Mellen Center for MS in Ohio, was of the view, "We found a robust reduction in the annualized relapse rate of 44 percent in the twice-daily group and 51 percent in the thrice-daily group”.
He further asserted that he did not find any side effect from the pill, which was being taken by patients two a day. The findings of the same will also appear in the new issue of the New England Journal of Medicine.
Both the studies have been funded by the Biogen Idec, which is the drug's manufacturer. To reveal some information about the disease then it is an autoimmune disease, which affects nervous system.
