The Pregnancy gender test to determine the sex of the unborn baby is now available for women in the UAE. Similar tests are available in the US and Europe but are banned in India and China.

Experts say that the test can be conducted within seven weeks. Medsol lab is offering the test named "pink or blue" in various UAE cities including Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi and Al Ain.

General Manager of business development for Medsol, Jihad Sa'adeh said, "The first thing a woman wants to know when told she is pregnant is the sex of the baby."

The test determines the sex by detecting minute quantities of the baby's male or female DNA in the mother's blood. The test is believed to be 95 per cent accurate. Countries like India and China have put a ban on the test because some parents abort their baby if it is a girl, preferring to have a boy. The cases are not rare in China as a one child policy is enforced.
