Splendid racing complex launches in Dubai

Mohammed-bin-Rashid-Al-MaktoumA multi Billion dollar racing complex, a brain child of Dubai's ruler, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, is set to add yet another feather in its cap, after the unveiling of the World's tallest building, the Burj Khalifa in November.

The opening race meeting was successfully completed at the ultimate race venue and roads have been cleared for holding the $US10 million Dubai World Cup on March 27 at the racing complex.

Racing complex, having a capacity to hold as many as 80,000 people, will also hold the first of 10 major racing events according to Mohammed Al Hathbor, Development Manager for builder Meydan LLC. He added, "There is no grandstand or racetrack as big as Meydan."

The race grandstand spread over 1.6 km has been included with the world's first five-star trackside hotel, shopping malls, a museum and gallery a movie theater and some other corporate facilities.

Dubai's ruler Sheikh Mohammed owns the World's biggest racecourse and he is one of the top investors in thoroughbred bloodstock. The Sheikh spent a huge amount at the Tattersalls horse sales in Newmarket, England and brought eight foals for a total of $1.91 million.
