Roads have been cleared for the UAE to usher in the era of internet telephony as two telecom operators in the country are pondering to roll out VoIP service in the international market according to reports published in major newspapers.
Local Arabic daily Emarat Al Youm,, citing officials at Etisalat, too claimed that VoIP services would be rolled out by July this year. The services will allow operators to make calls using internet service at very remunerative prices.
The telecom firms in the UAE are waiting for approvals from the country's telecom regulator the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority for preparing an acceptable formula over pricing issue.
Mohamed Al Ghanim, Director-General of UAE's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, added, "We will try with the development of the new national telecom policy to capture the leadership vision and support various sectors such as banking and finance as much as possible."
Meanwhile, UAE's largest telecom firm- Etisalat which announced to increase its stake in its Indian telecom subsidiary to 50 per cent, has expedited its efforts for building a national optic fiber broadband network to almost every home by offering a high speed of up to 100 megabits a second.
