Kuwait to be visited by SM Krishna

SM-KRISHNAFrom today onwards, a two-day visit to Kuwait would be embarked by External Affairs Minister SM Krishna.

A number of senior officials are accompanying Krishna, who would be visiting the country at the invitation of Kuwait Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohammed Sabah Al-Salem Al-Sabah.

The Minister, during the visit, will call on the Amir of Kuwait, Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah and Prime Minister Nasser Mohammad Al Ahmed Al-Sabah. The main motive of the visit will be to hold serious discussions on areas of mutual interest with his counterpart and the Kuwaiti leadership.

Krishna will also look forward be meeting with a cross section of Indian community, which is nearly 600,000 at present.

Both India and Kuwait, which have historical linkages that have deepened and diversified over time, enjoy traditionally close and friendly relations.

The friendship is also bolstered further due to geographic proximity, ancient trade ties, and cultural affinities.

India sees Kuwait as an important trading partner and 8.4 billion dollars was the trade between the two countries for 2007-2008. For 2009, it is estimated at 10.5 billion dollars.
