Southern Yemen under growing separatists influence

YemenThe southern province of Yemen has been seeing large scale influence of separatist movement indicating growing sense of dissatisfaction among people. This situation can turn grave anytime that would cost very dearly to the peace and tranquility of the region.

Resentment among people has been flourishing since the integration of South and North Yemen in 1993 but the situation has been taking organizational shapes during last three years. Government, on its part, has been using military power to suppress the movement. Police arrested more than 90 people last month in line with government policy to crack down on the separatist forces.

Government also took other measures to mitigate the problem by imposing restrictions on the transport service and cutting telecom services in the affected regions of the country. Dhale, a region of southern Yemen, has been under emergency with administrative powers have been confined in few hands.

Sheikh Abdu Alribh al Naqib, one of the main separatist leaders in the Yafa region north of Aden, said, "We expect to be attacked by Ali Abdullah Saleh. He has a history of brutally attacking his own people. He believes that Saddam Hussein was a great leader."
