UAE rights on islands supported by GCC

GCC-LOGOThe GCC (Gulf Cooperation Council) Ministerial Council once again extended its support to the sovereign right of the UAE over its three Islands occupied by Iran and UAE's rights over the territorial waters, airspace, continental shelf and exclusive economic zone of these three islands.

The meeting was chaired by Shaikh Mohammad Sabah Al Salem Al Sabah, Kuwait's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and was attended by Shaikh Abdullah Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Foreign Minister, who headed the UAE delegation.

The council asked Iran to sort out the issue of the three islands either through direct negotiations or through the International Court of Justice. It also desired that Iran should respond to UAE's efforts to resolve the matter through peaceful means thereby strengthen the security and stability in the region.

The assassination of Hamas leader, Mahmoud Al Mabhouh Mabhouh, in Dubai, was also condemned by the council and it said that the assassination violated sovereignty and security of UAE and also violated the International law.

The council also supported the re-nomination of UAE for the membership of International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) of the third category from 2010 to 2013, re-nomination UAE for the membership of the Governing Council of the International Telecommunication Union and its candidate for the membership of the Radio Regulations Board from 2010 to 2014.

Regarding Iran's nuclear programme, the council reaffirmed its insistence to the adherence to the principal's of international legitimacy.
