Sea Shepherd crew starts “Save Tuna” mission

Bluefin-TunaThe Sea Shepherd crew rolled out new round of its journey in a bid to save the endangered bluefin tuna which is famous for their commercial value. The big fish become rare in the World due to over consumption and the environmentalists have been calling for their protection at different occasion.

Sea Shepherd captain Paul Watson, who with his crew sailed into Wellington yesterday said, "The bluefin tuna right now has reached a point where there is less than 15 percent of its original numbers."

Mr. Watson said that it is quite unlikely to find suitable waters in the Mediterranean as bluefin tuna fishery is in the control of the Italian Corsican mafia.

Meanwhile, the efforts to save fishes suffered a jolt when the countries voted down the proposal to ban the export of Atlantic bluefin tuna in Qatar. The New Zealand Government also opposed the proposal casting vote against the proposal and thus paving a way for the unsecure future of the species.

However, Mr. Wilson is determined for achieving his objective despite the Qatar development.
