Singapore Telecommunications Acquiring U.S Based Trustwave, for $810 MillionSingapore Telecommunications, which is the biggest telecom operator of Southeast Asia in terms of revenue, is acquiring Trustwave.

Trustwave is a cyber-security firm based in the U. S. The deal will be worth $810 million. This will be Singtel's largest acquisition so far outside the prime telecom sector.

With this acquisition, Singtel is making as effort to be involved in other arenas than just being a pure telecoms company. It is seeking to expand in areas like- digital life, which also encompasses digital advertising, mobile video and cyber security going into partnership with Akamai, FireEye Inc and some others.

IT consultancy Gartner says that, the company is also venturing into the arena of managed security services as the industry is predicted to expand fifteen percent yearly starting from 2014 to 2018 to reach $24 billion.

Chua Sock Koong, the CEO of Singtel told the reporters during a briefing, "Today's acquisition of Trustwave is a critical step to capturing global opportunities in the cyber security market."

Prior to the deal on Wednesday, Singtel has already spent approximately S$900 million or $663 million on acquisitions that started from 2012. All the acquisition deals were usually focused on building its business of 'digital life'.
