M-Pesa Transfer Errors Reduced as Safaricom Introduces ‘Hakikisha’The users of M-Pesa in Kenya will now be able to confirm the recipient's names when transferring mobile money before they complete the transaction.

Safaricom, the leading mobile network operator in Kenya has made some changes to make its M-Pesa money transfer system more convenient and also to eliminate losses of money transferred to unintentional recipients when there are mistakes in entering numbers.

According to the new system, the customers using M-Pesa will be capable of adding the fund recipient's name before carrying out the transaction. Hakikisha, which means to "make sure" in Swahili has been piloted for one month. It will be gradually rolled out to the 21,7 million M-Pesa customers in a number of phases by October 30.

'Hakikisha' the new function introduced by Safaricom will allow the customers fifteen seconds time to confirm the intended recipients name. It will pop up on the screen before the transaction is completed. It will also permit the customers to dial the 1 within those fifteen seconds, in case they want to stop the transaction. If they fail to do so, Safaricom will automatically wire the money to the recipient.
