Opioids use increase significantly in Australia

Consumption of opioids has increased four times in Australia, whereas it has doubled in many other developed regions around the world.  Datahas shown that about 85 percent of the world's population is still suffering due to the non-availability of any kind of pain relief medications.

Senior author, Professor Richard Mattick claims researchers found that 95 percent of this drug is used in western and central Europe, North America, New Zealand and Australia.

Use of this medication in Australia has increased from 22 to a whopping 106 million doses annually. On the other hand, regions like Caribbean, Africa, South Asia, East Asia and Eastern Europe completely lack any source of opioid pain relief medication. The situation has been the same for the past ten years. Inspite of a massive increase of consumption in Australia, it is still not on the top of this list. The consumption in the United States of America is much higher. In regions where it is available in abundance, abuse can be a huge problem. The President of the United States of America, Barack Obama has proposed 1.1 billion dollars to address this opioid epidemic.
