Xiaomi announces new Mi5s and Mi5s Plus handsets

Within a few months of the launch of Mi5 handset, Chinese device manufacturer Xiaomi has announced two new handsets --- the Mi5s and the Mi5s Plus. Both the handsets boast impressive specifications and come with incredible price tags.

In announcing the new Mi5s and Mi5s Plus handsets, Xiaomi said that the first flash sale of the handsets will be held on Thursday, September 29. The Mi5s handset will feature a 5.15-inch 1080p display, whereas the Mi5s Plus will come with a 5.7-inch 1080p display.

Revealing the cost of the handsets in China, Xiaomi said that the cost of the Mi5s will be only 1999 yuan ($300) for a 3GB/64GB model, and 2299 yuan ($345) for a 4GB/128GB model. The Mi5s Plus will, on the other hand, be priced at 2299 yuan ($345) for a 4GB/64GB model, and 2599 yuan ($390) for a 6GB/128GB model.

Both the Mi5s and Mi5s Plus handsets will be available in four color options --- gray, pink, gold, and silver.

Some of the features common to both Mi5s and Mi5s Plus handsets include the Snapdragon 821 processor; 64GB or 128GB of UFS 2.0 storage capacity; a 4-megapixel front 'selfie' camera; USB-C; dual SIM; and QC3.0. The Mi5s will come with a new 12-megapixel Sony IMX378 rear camera and 3200mAh battery; while the Mi5s Plus will come with dual 13-megapixel rear cameras and a massive 3800mAh battery.
