A whopping 9.2 billion dollars worth of contracts have been awarded by the state-run Abu Dhabi Gas Industries for gas storage, treatment plants etc. Of these, 3.9 billion dollars worth of contracts have been awarded to three South Korean companies, for the gas development projects in the United Arab Emirates.
A consortium led by GS Engineering and Construction, including British-based Petrofac, got a contract of 2.2 billion dollars for building a gas plant in Habshan region. In this consortium, the South Korean company, which has 55 percent stake, shall have 1.2 billion dollars share.
Meanwhile, Hyundai Engineering and Construction was awarded 1.7 billion dollars contract, and the Hyundai Heavy Industries one billion dollar worth of contract.
With these contracts, the South Korean firms have managed to get mega deals in the Middle East and North Africa.
Additionally, 2.8 billion dollars contracts were awarded to Daelim Industrial, SK Engineering and Construction and Samsung Engineering, for building of a refinery and petrochemical plant complex in Saudi Arabia; and Samsung Engineering got contracts worth 2.6 billion dollars for renovating oil refinery in Algeria.
