Celebrating UAE’s national treasure

pearl industryThe UAE heritage would be incomplete without a mention of the pearl industry. The industry now is in the threat of being forgotten by the people. Abu Dhabi cultural experts are really worried about this fact and are waking up to this issue.

They not only want to ensure that it be remembered but also flourish. A non-profit organization has been dedicated, chaired by Al Sayegh. The pearl revival committee is a great move, (set up in 2004) as far as the future of this industry is concerned. It ensures that the pearls brought to this nation from all over the world are accessible to the younger generation.

The importance of this industry is growing day by day and the hub for natural pearls is none other than UAE. It is known to have the best pearls in the world from its waters.

Among the rarest, largest and the most precious pearls is `The Sheikha Fatima Pearl'. This 856-carat piece is 10.2 centimetres long with a circumference of 15.2 centimetres.
