Metro adviser to be selected by Abu Dhabi
As per the media reports, a shortlist of companies, which are striving to take up the role of an adviser for the capital's metro project, includes the names of leading companies from the US, the UK, Australia, Lebanon, France, Spain and Denmark.
The list - which is being reviewed by the emirate's Executive Council, chaired by General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council - has been finalized by the Abu Dhabi Transport Department, which is chaired by Abdullah Rashid Al Otaiba, Member of the Executive Council. Once it receives the allowance from the council, the branch will reward the contract to the selected company.
The project, which is part of the capital's surface transport master plan, has a network that includes 131km of metro lines, and will be divided into two sections. While, the first will pertain to Abu Dhabi International Airport, Al Raha Beach, Abu Dhabi Island, Sadyaat Island and Yas Island, the second will cater to Abu Dhabi Island, Mussaffah and the Mohammed bin Zayed suburbs.
It has been forecast that the network will lend a helping hand in the emirate's economic development and ease traffic overcrowding. Over the next 20 years, the Abu Dhabi Plan 2030 estimates that the city's population will be raised up to around three million.
The adviser will carry out a possibility study, offer early and full designs for the network, stations, safety and security systems and electronic control systems and manage the ultimate construction of the metro.
"The consultant will carry out feasibility study, the initial and detailed designs of the network, stations, safety and security systems, electronic control systems and finally supervision of the eventual construction of the metro," specifies the contract.
