There is an end to the journey of Dawn O'Neil as the chief executive of beyondblue, which is working in the society to support those who are battling with mental health concerns.
Though she had taken up the position just 8 months back, the departure is being linked with the recent remarks made by Chairman Jeff Kennett on heterosexual marriages, which has miffed the lady to an extent that she tabled her resignation.
“Happy heterosexual marriages are the best environment for the mental health of children”, said Kennett, post which the gay and the lesbian community was deeply heart and felt offended.
Though Ms. O'Neil did her best to defend the remarks by claiming that every single individual is entitled to his opinion so that she can redeem the lost image of the national non-profit organization, but she failed to pacify the simmering hearts in the end.
While the tabled resignation has been accepted by the board, in an attempt to dissolve the impact of controversial remarks, a campaign around February or March next year would be launched.
Moreover, board members have appreciated the efforts made by Ms. O'Neil, while Deputy Chief Executive Clare Shann has been roped in to take her position.
