Sony will likely sell 'hundreds of thousands' of PlayStation VR units at launch

With Sony having officially launched its new virtual-reality (VR) headset this week, PlayStation executive Jim Ryan has projected that the company will sell "hundreds of thousands" of units of the headset at launch.

At a somewhat low-key event held recently in Manhattan, Sony announced its new A6500 camera which marks an upgrade to the company's A6300 prosumer mirrorless camera launched in March this year.

Sony’s flagship Xperia XZ handset hits US; costs $699 unlocked and contract-free

Sony newest flagship handset, the Xperia XZ, has officially been launched in the US market. The handset is now available for purchase from Amazon, unlocked and contract-free.

The Xperia XZ is Sony's latest flagship handset which was introduced by the company at the IFA event in September. The high-end handset was unveiled along with its smaller counterpart, the Xperia X Compact, which is already available from Amazon.

Sony announces its first 4K UHD Blu-ray player

On Wednesday, Sony announced its first 4K Ultra HD (UHD) Blu-ray player --- the UBP-X1000ES, which has the capability to spin virtually all kinds of discs. The 4K Blu-ray player is especially aimed at high-end videophiles.

4K Ultra HD Blu-ray marks the newest disc-based standard; and it boasts the inclusion of some highly notable features like 4K resolution (3,840x2,160 pixels), high dynamic range (HDR) and improved color depth.

‘The Last Guardian’ release delayed from October to December

On Monday, SCE President Shuhei Yoshida said in an announcement, made via a post on the PlayStation Blog, that the launch of 'The Last Guardian' game has been delayed by slightly more than one month.

According to the disclosure by Yoshida, Sony has delayed the launch of 'The Last Guardian' from its earlier-announced October release date, to early December. The game is now scheduled for launch on December 6, 2016.

Sony to increase PlayStation Plus subscription from Sept. 22

In a recent announcement made via the PlayStation Blog, Sony has revealed that it is making an upward revision in the pricing of its PlayStation Plus online gaming service in September.

The announcement implies that the current $50-a-year membership cost of the PlayStation Plus service is scheduled to increase next month. The increased pricing will go into effect on September 22, 2016.
