UAE finalizes deal for Six Boeing C-17s

BoeingA contract was recently signed by the United Arab Emirates to buy six Boeing C-17 Globemaster III air-lifters. This follows up the UAE's announcement last year that it would purchase the C-17.

Major General Staff Pilot Faris Mohamed Al Mazrouei said in the release, "The C-17 will give the UAE the ability to perform a variety of humanitarian and strategic lift operations around the world in support of both national and international missions. These missions require us to be ready for any contingency at any time and any place, and the C-17 meets our requirements."

The UAE will take delivery of four C-17s in 2011 and two in 2012, under the agreement. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed by the parties. The deal includes Boeing support for the C-17s.

As of now, 212 C-17s are in service across the world, out of which 19 are with international customers and the rest with the U. S. Air Force.
