Dubai Cruise Tourism to grow 30% in 2010
The figures from the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) show an increase by 37 pct in the number of cruise passengers who visited Dubai previous year and it is predictable to increase another 30% in the year 2010.
In the year 2009, approximately 250,000 cruise tourists visited the Emirate. In 2010, it is predicted that 120 ships and around 325,000 passengers would be hosted by the new Dubai Cruise Terminal.
By the end of January, the new Dubai Cruise Terminal is likely to become fully operational and will allow Dubai to hold bigger cruise liners.
At the same time, the new terminal, which covers an area of 3,450 sq m, is designed to handle up to three to four ships.
In 2007, Costa Cruises set up its regional base in Dubai and is mulling to launch its latest ship, the Costa Deliziosa, on February 23.
