BATA introduces Cheap Cigarettes

BATAAs per reports, it has been revealed that the British American Tobacco Australia (BATA) has recently introduced a new brand of cigarettes known as Just Smokes. One pack of 25 cigarettes cost about $11.50, which is quite cheap when compared to other cigarettes of the same brand as well as of different brands.

The federal government has criticized the BATA for targeting adolescents by introducing economic cigarettes. However, the BATA said that it is the fault of the government and they should be blamed for it.

It was the government, which decided to increase the excise tax on tobacco products by 25% in 2010 and since then they have witnessed severe pressure of introducing cheap cigarettes. Health Minister Tanya Plibersek is not affected with the explanation being given by the BATA.

Tanya said that any explanation cannot take back the claim that the BATA has introduced cheap cigarettes, which is encouraging children to smoke. “By dropping their prices British American Tobacco appears to be directly targeting vulnerable teenagers”, she further affirmed.

Tanya has made it clear that if they will further need to increase excise tax then they will do it. They will continue to take steps which can bring a decline in the number of smokers.
