Novel Drug to Extend Lifespan of Advanced Pancreatic Cancer Patients Successfully TestedAccording to a study presented at gastrointestinal cancers meeting organized by American Society of Clinical Oncology, a drug to extend the lives of advanced pancreatic cancer sufferers have been successfully tested.

The drug named as Abraxane is said to increase the lives of patients by two months. Experts said that the development of the drug is definitely advancement in the level of treatment provided against the cancer.

A number of drugs have been developed in the past but most of them have been proved to be ineffective. The current drug development was henceforth was said to be a welcome.

Dr. Robert Mayer, a professor at Harvard University said that the advanced pancreatic cancer is quite notorious to treat. It is said to be the fourth common cause of cancer deaths across the globe.

Clinical trials showed that people taking the drug were able to live 8.5 months rather than 6.7 months. In total, 861 patients took part in the research, revealed the findings provided by the American Society of Clinical Oncology.

"You may say it is not that much, but it gives people hope that maybe I can be that 1 in 10 or 1 in 11", said lead investigator of the study Daniel Von Hoff.
