Commonly Prescribed Drugs Double Kidney Damage: Study

Commonly Prescribed Drugs Double Kidney Damage: StudyIn a shocking discovery, it has been revealed that usually prescribed antibiotic drugs can double the kidney damage.  Published study in the Canadian Medical Association Journal has thrown light on the antibiotics prescribed that can trigger kidney failure.

In order to prove the facts, the researchers tracked 10 years of health records from roughly 14,000 American men.  The men fell between the ages of 40 and 85 were observed for the study.  It was found that the common drugs such as fluoroquinolone antibiotics; ciprofloxacin, levofloxacin and moxifloxacin do not benefit the individuals who take them.

It was noticed by the researchers that risk involved with the consumption of the antibiotics is very less.  However, statistics unveil that one in 1,500 patients can be admitted for kidney failure in this regard.

The worst part of the conclusion is that in recent years there has been a huge rise in fluoroquinolone consumption.  It was noticed that between 1995 and 2002 there has been a rise in consumption of antibiotics from 10% to 24%.

Commenting on the result, one of the authors of the study has said, "The bigger picture is we should try to prescribe these drugs more judiciously.  We know many times they are prescribed unnecessarily".
