People Who Drink Diet Beverages Consume More Calories from Solid Food and SnacksA new study has tried to figure out what factors that could increase the calorie-intake in obese people. The study found something that could be called a paradox, suggesting people consuming diet beverages for weight-loss are actually the ones consuming more calories though solid food and snacks.

Well, this could be really worrisome for many overweight or obese people who drink diet beverages to lose weight, but on the contrary, they are putting on more weight by consuming more calories from food than those who do not rely on soda to lose weight.

“Although overweight and obese adults who drink diet soda eat a comparable amount of total calories as heavier adults who drink sugary beverages, they consume significantly more calories from solid food at both meals and snacks", said Sara Bleich, lead author of the study.

According to researchers, trend of consuming diet soda has surged considerably in the past few decades, i.e. from three percent in 1965 to 20% today. The study also found that Body Mass Index was higher for those individuals who regularly drank diet soda.

The study has suggested that overweight or obese adults endeavoring to lose weight by including diet beverages in their weight-loss regime may need to be careful about calories they are consuming through solid food and sweet snacks.
