Otaihape enters into voluntary bankruptcyOtaihape Health Limited has entered into voluntarily bankruptcy and the Whanganui District Health Board has been notified about the same.

Whanganui District Health Board Chief Executive Julie Patterson stated that she understood the decision of the trustees and acknowledged how difficult this was for all concerned.

She said, "This decision will be very unsettling and disruptive for the residents and their families, staff and the whole community. Over the weekend we will be attempting to contact each of the resident's families and offer them the opportunity to meet with us early next week. We also plan to hold a community meeting next week."

It was further added that we hold the responsibility for health services in Taihape and contingency planning has been started by us immediately. Staff will continue to provide care over the weekend and liquidator has assured this.

A support package, valued at close to half a million dollars to Otaihape Health Limited was what the Board agreed to provide in August.

Upon Otaihape Health, the additional funding was conditional and reduce its costs was continued and developing a flexible staffing arrangement to maximize efficiencies.

Next week after meeting with the liquidator, Whanganui District Health Board will be able to provide further information.
