UAE air traffic movements rises 4.8 per cent in August
Rise in business and commercial activities pushed air traffic in the United Arab Emirates by 4.8 per cent in August 2011 compared to the corresponding period last year. The country recorded an average of 1,810 air traffic movements per day while flights totaling 56,100, according to information provided by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA).
GCAA reports rank UAE at third place as far as numbers of flights are concerned. Similarly, air traffic movements in Sharjah International Airport ranked fourth with 5,124 movements. Dubai ranked first with 24,934 traffic movements while Abu Dhabi found third place.
DWC-Al Maktoum International Airport, Fujairah International Airport and Ras Al Khaimah International Airport reported 328, 223 and 167 air traffic movements during the reporting period, according to GCAA's Air Traffic monthly report for August 2011.
GCAA renewed 2 Air Operator Certificates (AOC), completed 34 licensing transactions for aircraft Maintenance Companies in line with its policy to provide better air safety. The body conducted 12 inspections and audits for Air Navigation and Aerodromes operations during the reporting period.
