Geely starts production of all-electric Zeekr 001; deliveries to commence on October 23, 2021
Chinese automobile manufacturer Zhejiang Geely has confirmed that it has officially started the production of its all-new, fully-electric Zeekr 001 electric coupe—the first model from the new Zeekr premium brand.
The production of the Zeekr 001 EV is taking place at the manufacturer’s Ningbo, China-based highly-automated Zeekr Intelligent Factory, which claims to be the world’s most advanced vehicle manufacturing facility. The welding section at the advanced manufacturing facility is fully automated with more than 300 robots, which carry out the work with limited human intervention. The industrial grade 5G+ intelligent internet system of the factory allows production to be fully planned, tracked as well as checked in a transparent manner.
Customer deliveries of the new EV are slated to start from 23rd of October. According to Chinese media, Zhejiang Geely has plans to deliver up to 10,000 units of the new EV to customers by the end of 2021, and all of those are already sold out as the company has already received ten thousand pre-orders.
To provide pre-order holders with a first-hand experience, the manufacturer will open ZEEKR Experience Centers and ZEEKR Spaces across the country. Two experience centers will be opened in Hangzhou and Shanghai.
Announcing the plans, Geely said, “First deliveries of the ZEEKR 001 are expected to happen on 23rd of October, 2021 in the ZEEKR Intelligent Factory and through ZEEKR Experience Centers and ZEEKR Spaces across China. By 2021, ZEEKR will open two experience centers in Hangzhou and Shanghai.”
Besides opening Zeekr Experience Centers and Zeekr Spaces, the manufacturer will create its own fast charging network under the Zeekr Power brand that will deliver peak output of up to 360 kW, which will be enough to add 120 km (roughly 75 miles) of driving range in just 5 minutes. The plan is to install more than 2,200 charging stations with more than 20,000 charging stalls by the end of 2023.
The Zeekr 001 EV is the company’s first model based on the Sustainable Electric Architecture (SEA) platform.
The all-new EV boasts to have eye-catching specs with all-wheel drive (AWD) and rear-wheel drive (RWD) options, and batteries of up to 100 kWh. The system will offer a NEDC range of more than 700 km (435 miles) with the ability to accelerate from zero to 100 km/h (roughly 62 mph) in less than 4 seconds. The 86-kWh battery AWD variant costs 281,000 CNY (US$44,000); while the 100-kWh battery RWD and AWD variants cost 281,000 CNY (US$44,000) and 360,000 CNY (US$56,400), respectively.
