HPCL-Mittal Energy Limited (HMEL) has announced plans to invest Rs 2,600 crore in the specialty and fine chemicals sector in Punjab, marking a significant step toward expanding its presence beyond conventional refining operations. The investment was revealed by industrialist Lakshmi Niwas Mittal during the Progressive Punjab Investors Summit 2026. Alongside the chemicals initiative, the company also plans to enter the retail fuel market with a network of 500 outlets across India. India’s liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) refill bookings have declined to around 77 lakh from an earlier 88.8 lakh, signaling a gradual easing of precautionary buying among consumers. Authorities have reiterated that the country faces no shortage of petrol, diesel, or cooking gas, even as geopolitical tensions in West Asia continue to influence global energy markets. Domestic refineries are operating at high capacity and maintaining sufficient crude oil reserves to ensure uninterrupted supply.

Venture capital firm Accel and Google’s AI Futures Fund have unveiled the five startups selected for the 2026 Atoms AI Cohort, a program designed to accelerate innovation in artificial intelligence across enterprise, voice technology, entertainment, and industrial automation.
